With a First Prize from the Paris National Superior Conservatory of Music and Master of Music from the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, harpist Sophie Clavel became principal harp with the Taipei City Symphony and the Taipei Sinfonietta and Philharmonic Orchestras in Taiwan where she lived for 21 years.
At the same time she taught the harp in the major universities and the Taipei National University of Performing Arts where she also taught chamber music and orchestra repertoire. She performed in recitals, concertos and chamber music ensemble around the island and was invited to give master classes in Korea and Japan and join the staff of the local music summer workshops.
Her main teachers were Lily Laskine, Odette Le Dentu, Jacqueline Borot and Susann McDonald, along with Marielle Nordmann, Susanna Mildonian, Chantal Mathieu and Germaine Lorenzini.
Back in France in 2006, Sophie Clavel started a harp school, “Harpe en Périgord” which is now part of the Bergerac Conservatory of Music. She performs intensively as a soloist and with her Trio Glinka (violin/cello & harp) and the Harp Duo in Dordogne where she resides. Since 1998 she is on the Board as Director of the public relations of the World Harp Congress..
